LATER IN THE DAY….. DENISA SAW A COYOTE CHASE THE SMALLEST FAWN AND SEPARATED IT FROM ITS MOTHER AND TWIN……  DENISA COULDN’T SEE WHAT HAPPENED FROM THAT POINT…… BUT IT MOST LIKELY WAS NOT FAVOURABLE FOR THE FAWN…….

IT’S -14 WITH THE WIND CHILL FACTOR……. YOU KNOW WHERE THE LONG JOHNS ARE…….

THEY SAY A PICTURE IS WORTH 1000 WORDS….. AND I AGREE…… DENISA WAS OUT WITH THE CAMERA ON OCTOBER 9……. I HAVE INCLUDED A COUPLE OF HER SHOTS…….

THE FIRST IS A PICTURE OF WILLOW LAKE FROZEN OVER…… THE CRISSCROSS LINES IN THE ICE ARE CAUSED WHEN THE SURFACE OF THE WATER  FREEZES…… THE ALREADY FROZEN ICE TRIES TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY…… BECAUSE IT CAN’T MORE….. IT CRACKS…. IT CHANGES COLOUR WHEN A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER RISES OVER THE ICE AND FREEZES ON TOP OF THE EXISTING ICE……

IN THE SECOND PICTURE THE ICE FORMED AS THE STILL UNFROZEN BUT ICE COLD WATER WAS BLOWN AND CONSEQUENTLY SPLASHED UP TO THE VEGETATION AT THE EDGE OF THE LAKE……

THE LAST FEW DAYS HAVE BEEN GREAT FOR TAKING PICTURES….. I FINALLY GOT A FEW GOOD SHOTS OF A FEMALE DEER (DOE) GRAZING WITH HER TWIN FAWNS STILL STICKING BY HER SIDE…..

ORDINARILY….. THEY WOULD STAY WITH HER UNTIL SHE IS READY TO CALF IN THE SPRING…… AT THAT POINT THE FAWNS WILL BE PUSHED AWAY SO THAT THE DOE CAN CARE FOR HER NEW BORN FAWNS…..
